Cooling and Ventilation (HVAC) Systems

In cooling and ventilation, comfort comes less from capacity than from correct air distribution, correct control and properly measured flow rates. Haustech builds HVAC systems together with their mechanical and control layers.

In short

HVAC systems comprise cooling generation, air and water distribution, terminal units and a control layer. Haustech Mekanik takes on equipment selection, supply, mechanical installation and control integration for cooling and ventilation systems in commercial and industrial buildings, handing over with measured flow rates after testing and balancing.

The cooling side

The most common problem in cooling systems is an installation that runs inefficiently at part load. Variable flow systems, differential pressure control and correctly selected two- or three-way valves noticeably reduce energy consumption with the same equipment.

For fan coils and terminal units, the control strategy (two-pipe / four-pipe, on-off / modulating) must be decided together with the system design; changing it later usually means intervening in the installation.

The ventilation side

An unmeasured ventilation system is effectively an undesigned one. Duct tightness, damper positions and grille flow rates are measured and recorded during commissioning.

Damper actuators and air quality sensors let ventilation follow demand; demand-based operation instead of continuous full flow is the single largest saving in ventilation energy.

Frequently asked

Can you upgrade the control of my existing fan coil system?

Yes. Replacing room thermostats, control valves and actuators can be done without touching the existing fan coil units and gives fast results in both comfort and energy consumption.

What measurements do you take at commissioning?

On the water side, flow rates and differential pressure; on the air side, grille flow rates and duct pressures. On the control side we verify valve and damper stroke and validate sensors. Results are reported in the handover file.
